This tour will focus on succession forestry management of an over-crowded alder forest. Learn about how to evolve a degraded stand from a liability to an asset while maintaining wildlife habitat! Succession forestry is modeled after natural processes and focuses on creating a mixed-conifer forest to provide high quality functions for land managers and native wildlife. This walking tour will highlight stand re-generation, invasive species management, succession forestry, and managing stands for wildlife value. After the tour, join Nature Preserve staff in a walk through our 5,000-year-old peat bog. Learn about this unique habitat and the value of wetlands in a forest, then conclude the evening with a dessert potluck!
