SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve’s Ritcher Education Center is located at 21656 184th Ave SE Renton, WA 98058
SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve is on the West side of the road. Look for the wooden ‘Shadow Lake Bog’ sign. You will see a gravel parking lot with a large covered stage, trail head sign, and the Ritcher Education Center. SHADOW’s Office is located at the top of the outdoor staircase to the left of this education building.
Please note: The white mobile home is a private residence. If you need to contact someone please come by the office or give us a call!
Parking is available in the gravel lot in front of SHADOW’s Ritcher Education Center. During events and on sunny days this lot fills up quickly! When this occurs, please feel free to park along the shoulder of 184th Ave SE.
Please use caution when parking on the side of road and look both ways for passing traffic.
Shadow Lake Bog & Boardwalk
SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve’s half-mile (round-trip), boardwalk trail through the famous SHADOW Lake Bog is open to the public from dawn until dusk, daily. The trail head for the boardwalk is located at SHADOW’s Richter Educations Center. Unfortunately, dogs are not able to walk on the boardwalk, as the mesh grating will hurt their paws.
Accessing SHADOW’s Uplands
There are approximately three miles of hiking trails through SHADOW’s Upland Forests. These trails are beautiful and open to the public from dawn until dusk, daily, throughout the year. If you are interested in visiting these trails please contact us and let us know the number of people in your party and date you plan to be on the property. A simple voicemail or contact us form is sufficient for this.
SHADOW’s Upland Forest Trails are located around a three minute drive from the Ritcher Education Center and Boardwalk Trail. Make a left out of SHADOW’s gravel parking lot and follow 184th Ave SE to the left as it turns into Peter Grub Road. After the intersection with SE 224th St look for a red metal gate on the left. You may park outside this gate and access the property on foot.
SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve is home to over 100 acres of permanently protected green spaces in South King County. This property contains a variety of habitat types.
