SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve is mission-driven to increase our community’s access to green spaces!



The boardwalk through Shadow Lake Bog and Upland Trails are open to the public from dawn until dusk daily. A self-guided bog tour is available here. 


SHADOW’s educational programming is designed for students of all ages.

Event Rental Space

Enjoy the splendor of the outdoors and share the beauty of the Nature Preserve with your guests. Host your next event at SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve! 



Rent out the spacious Richter Education Center for community gatherings, meetings, field days, parties, and events. Roll up the doors in summer and enjoy an open-air event. Guests will have the opportunity to stroll the grounds and view the famous Shadow Lake Bog, the Nature Preserve’s founding inspiration.

Seasonal Events


Come celebrate the season at SHADOW!


Throughout the year, SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve offers educational events centered around the changing seasons. From learning about native pollinators on Valentines Day to exploring the Spooktacular, Haunted Peat Bog around Halloween, these events offer fun-for-the-whole-family opportunities to get outside and learn about nature!

Education Programs



Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while on the property. Unless otherwise specified, SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve events are held at the Ritcher Education Center.
