Volunteer Training Nights
SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve holds monthly volunteer training on a Tuesday evening from 6 – 7:30 pm. Each month’s training focuses on a different subject pertaining to the current Restoration and Preservation activities occurring at the Nature Preserve. These potluck-style events are open to everyone from seasoned SHADOW volunteers to first-time visitors interested in joining this vibrant volunteer community. Join us and take the first step towards becoming an informed bog ambassador!
Restoration Work Parties
The Restoration Work Parties are held on (most) Saturdays from 10 am – 2 pm and range from a variety of tasks benefiting the Nature Preserve and its programs. Common activities include removal of invasive plants, planting of native species, and maintenance work on trails.
Please RSVP to your first work party (contact us) and plan to arrive around 15 minutes early. Work Parties are held outside rain or shine, so please wear long pants and sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy and are weather appropriate. We also suggest that you bring a sunscreen, water bottle, warm layers, rain gear, and a lunch if you would like one.
All necessary tools and training will be provided by SHADOW’s staff and veteran volunteers. Simply come with your outdoor gear (listed above) and a smile! Restoration Work Parties have varying levels of difficulty, and there are ways to fit in volunteers of all ability levels.
