SUMMARY:Guided Forest Bathing
DESCRIPTION:Join Cascadia Forest Therapy for a 90  minute Introduction to Forest Bathing walk in the Uplands area of SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve. \nForest bathing (or shinrin-yoku) has been popular in Japan for decades and is gaining momentum in the US. The practice encourages you to walk in the forest at a slower pace and take in the atmosphere around you. Multiple scientific studies have shown that it lowers stress and blood pressure levels\, while increasing immune system functioning\, making you more resilient to diseases and illness. \n  \nThese walks are slow-paced and generally cover less than a mile of trail. During this time the guide\, in partnership with the forest\, will offer an evolving series of invitations crafted to help participants slow down and open their senses. The opening of one’s senses encourages mindfulness\, which readies the heart and mind to be fully present in the natural world. \n  \n  \nSuggested donation of $25.
SUMMARY:Lake weed watcher training
DESCRIPTION:Why\nVolunteers are needed to survey small lakes for new populations of aquatic noxious weeds . Detecting these weeds early allows us to stop them before they get entrenched. \nWhat\nFree training to learn: \n\nHow to identify aquatic weeds and native plants\nHow to do a lake survey and submit data\nHow fun it is to be a Lake Weed Watcher!\n\nThe Lake Weed Watcher Program trains volunteers to survey for aquatic weeds in small lakes in King County\, Washington. Volunteers are trained to identify both native and non-native aquatic plants.  The goal of the project is to watch for populations of invasive weeds that are not currently known to occur in King County or that have a very limited distribution\, but have the potential to spread and cause damage.  Detecting these weeds early allows us to stop them before they get too entrenched to remove. \nThis event will take place at the Lodge at Beaver Lake\, not SHADOW!
