Join SHADOW’s Naturalists on a beginners birding walk. You’ll learn the basics on how to identify common bird species and where to find birding resources. Naturalists will spend some time covering the basics followed by a guided walk through SHADOW’s upland trail system to practice your bird ID skills!   *Binoculars are encouraged

Guided Nature Walk: Observing Birds

Come join us on this guided tour as we appreciate and observe the variety of birds found at SHADOW including species like the pileated woodpecker and the Anna’s hummingbird! We’ll also discuss the foraging and nesting habits of birds found here in the Pacific Northwest.  Guided Nature Walks are outdoor explorations that take place rain or shine. Come with weather appropriate clothes and shoes for moderate levels of walking – inclines or uneven ground may be encountered on this walk.

Come learn about Washington’s most fabulous large carnivores, cougars and wolves!   Enjoy an afternoon at the Nature Preserve and learn about carnivores from our guest educator, Sasha Hendricks! Sasha will discusses the background of these species, their position in the wild, interactions with humans, and more. Restoration Work Party

Help SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve beautify our grounds and maintain our trails by removing invasive weeds and pruning native species. No previous experience or tools are required, simply arrive with weather-proof clothing for working outside, a water bottle, and a smile. Please be aware that you may encounter muddy areas and plants with thorns. These events are held rain or shine!
