SUMMARY:Second Annual Bioblitz Competition
DESCRIPTION:Explore the Nature Preserve\, spot wildlife\, and record your sightings at SHADOW’s second Bioblitz! A bioblitz is a competition to count all the plants and animals seen in one day.  \nWe will be recording observations via Smartphone or Tablet in a program called iNaturalist. Check out the iNaturalist app here. Bring a device with the app downloaded with you or use one of ours. This family-friendly event will include opportunities for walking while recording sightings- hiking shoes and weather-proof clothing are recommended. We are hosting this bioblitz as part of a larger initiative\, The City Nature Challenge. Help King County and the Seattle Metro Area WIN for the most observations! Come join SHADOW to collect information about the flora and fauna present on SHADOW’s grounds! The practice encourages you to walk in the forest at a slower pace and take in the atmosphere around you. Multiple scientific studies have shown that it lowers stress and blood pressure levels\, while increasing immune system functioning\, making you more resilient to diseases and illness. \n  \nThese walks are slow-paced and generally cover less than a mile of trail. During this time the guide\, in partnership with the forest\, will offer an evolving series of invitations crafted to help participants slow down and open their senses. The opening of one’s senses encourages mindfulness\, which readies the heart and mind to be fully present in the natural world. \n  \n  \nSuggested donation of $25. DESCRIPTION:Restoration Work Parties\n  \nWork hard\, have fun\, and practice skills like building trail\, removing invasive species\, planting native plants\, and caring for the Nature Preserve by joining our weekly Volunteer Work Parties! \nWork Party tasks change weekly and always include a walk through our 5\,000-year-old bog. \nThese events are held rain or shine so make sure to come dressed for the weather. You may encounter muddy areas and plants with thorns so boots\, long sleeves\, and long pants are recommended. \nNo experience is necessary to participate. Tools and gloves are provided!
