All we have to do is accept the invitation.  Engage mindfully with the world around you on one of SHADOW’s beautiful upland trails on a two hour guided Forest Therapy Nature Walk experience with our new partner Cascadia Forest Therapy! Your sensory-focused time in the natural world will culminate in a lovely tea ceremony.\nThis event is fee based on a sliding scale with a per person cost of $50.00.\nTo pay for the class in advance please go to this link and pay what you can for the event.  Payment will be accepted the day of the event by SHADOW staff via check or online payment at the preserve.\nNo one will be turned away for inability to pay the full fee\, however we do need a minimum of 7 full-price paying participants to have this Forest Therapy experience.  A maximum of 15 participants will be allowed per session.  If there are not enough participants prior to class 72 hours prior to the experience\, the class will be cancelled and participants can either get a full refund for pre-payments or they can apply it to a future session.\n\n\n	Notice: JavaScript is required for this content.\nNo Fields Found.

DESCRIPTION:Registration Required\nNational Moth Week celebrates the beauty\, life cycles\, and habitats of moths. “Moth-ers” of all ages and abilities are encouraged to learn about\, observe\, and document moths in their backyards\, parks\, and neighborhoods. National Moth Week is being held\, worldwide\, during the last full week of July. \nNMW offers everyone\, everywhere a unique opportunity to become a Citizen Scientist and contribute scientific data about moths. Through partnerships with major online biological data depositories\, NMW participants can help map moth distribution and provide needed information on other life history aspects around the globe. \nJoin us at 7:00 to identify and count our native moths!\nPlease be sure and register so we know how many people to expect.\n (Arrive at 6:30 for a bog tour before our moth-venture.) \nWhy Moths?\nMoths are important pollinators for crops and flowers\, and serve as a food source for birds\, bats\, and other animals. \nMoths are among the most diverse and successful organisms on earth. \nScientists estimate that there are 150\,000\, and possibly more than 500\,000 moth species globally. \nTheir colors and patterns may be dazzling\, or plain\, or cryptically camouflaged. Shapes and sizes range from small as a pinhead (micro-moths) to as large as an adult hand (macro moths). \nWhy So Late?\nMost moths are nocturnal\, they fly at night\, so we look for them at night to see them. But some fly during the day as well. We are partnering with the Woodland Park Zoo to host their ongoing summer 🦇Bat Activity Trends 🦇citizen science program!  Jennifer Tallman from Woodland Park Zoo and Stephanie Miller from SHADOW will be on hand to give an informational presentation about the importance of bats to our ecosystem\, and then we will head to the observation sites to monitor bat activity for an ongoing study.  We will also be joined by Girl Scout Maya Gibbens who will share fascinating fact about bats and how to house them in your yard as part of her Silver Award project! SUMMARY:Guided Nature Walk: Tree\, Shrub\, and Mushroom Identification
DESCRIPTION:Winter is an underrated time of year to begin or improve your plant identification skills because many plants are dormant: making them easier to differentiate. Join Shadow Naturalist Cecilia to learn identification tips and tricks for these plants and any mushrooms we may find along the way. You will find yourself marveling at the nuances you can observe in the nature that surrounds you! \nGuided nature walks happen rain or shine\, so please dress to keep yourself warm and dry. We will walk slowly to allow time for observation\, but the path is uneven or uphill in some places. This is a free event\, but please consider making a donation to help support our education and restoration efforts! \nTo register please send an email to education@shadowhabitat.org with the number of people in your party as well as the ages of those under 18.
