Volunteer Job Descriptions
Restoration Work Party Lead – Work ONE SATURDAY a MONTH to help SHADOW’s Restoration & Outreach Specialist lead groups of volunteers in restoration efforts, including noxious weed control, tree planting, & trail maintenance. You will gain valuable leadership experience, restoration knowledge, and communication skills! (1-year commitment required)
Restoration Assistant – Work independently during the week to help complete special restoration projects at SHADOW. You will be trained on noxious weed removal, native tree/shrub planting techniques, & other restoration related activities. (6-month commitment required)
Restoration Work Party Volunteer – Join our Restoration Work Parties, held most Saturday’s from 10 am to 2pm at SHADOW. Check out our calendar for the next RWP and sign up! (no commitment required)
Field Monitor – Work alongside SHADOW staff and partners to aid in monitoring efforts like our quarterly photo point surveys and amphibian monitoring. (commitement varies)
Educator – Help lead environmental education activities for K-12 groups coming to SHADOW for field trips. You will learn how to give guided bog tours tailored to youth and how to lead education activities here at SHADOW. This volunteer job is on-call, weekdays, and typically in the morning and early afternoons. (6-month commitment required)
Curriculum Reviewer – Help the SHADOW Education staff review our environmental education curriculum. This position requires experience in education. (no commitment required)
Community Class Host – Help create and host a Community Class, offered to both, adults and children. You can lead a Bird Walk, teach the community how to help pollinators or how to build a bat box! Classes are held Weekday evenings or Saturdays. Experience in an environmental/naturalist field is highly recommended.
Bog Tour Guide – Learn all about SHADOW Lake Bog and lead Bog Tours during fieldtrips and events! This is an on-call volunteer job. (6-month commitment required)
Guided Nature Walk Lead – Lead ONE Guided Nature Walk a month (must be available Friday Morning from 9:45am – 11:15am) on a variety of nature related topics. These nature walks are a loose structure walk designed to engage the community in the outdoors and SHADOW. (6-month commitment required)
EVENTS AND DEVELOPMENT
Events Committee Member – Help SHADOW plan & organize their events! You will be responsible for attending monthly meetings (third Thursday of the month) and be available for two major events a year. There is no previous experience required for this position, just a willingness to be involved and learn. (1-year commitment required)
Event Staff – Have fun and help SHADOW have successful events! Be on-call to assist SHADOW with major events including a Summer Fundraiser, Neighborhood Open House and Frog Frolic. Event Staff activities will vary depending on event and needs. (On-call; committed to helping at one event per year)
Fundraiser –Help SHADOW raise critical funds for our programs by assisting with their silent auction, campaigns, fundraisers, & other development work. No experience required! (6-month commitment)
Grant Assistant – Conduct grant research, help write and edit grants that will help SHADOW acquire funding for projects.
SHADOW Ambassador – Help SHADOW connect to the community! Our SHADOW Ambassadors table at community festivals & farmers markets, and give presentations to community groups. This is an on-call, as needed volunteer position. (3-month commitment reccomended)
Maintenance Helper – Have some maintenance skills or wanting to learn? Help SHADOW maintain its grounds, office, and more. (No commitment)
Office Helper– Help SHADOW with miscellaneous office tasks entering data, creating flyers, organizing office, making copies etc. (3-month commitment of a two-hour shift once a week)
Content Writer – Work with SHADOW staff to create educational, fun content for our monthly newsletter, campaigns, and website by writing short articles on various topics.
