Keynote Speaker Roger Fernandes

Roger Fernandes is a Native American artist, storyteller and educator who uses local traditional Coast Salish stories to teach about the local tribal cultures. He is a member of the Lower Elwha S’Klallam Tribe and has a B.A. in Native American Studies from The Evergreen State College and an M.A. in whole systems Design from Antioch University.
He has worked in the fields of art, education, social work, and community organizing for the past 30 years. He uses storytelling and art as means of learning and communicating.

Wilderness Adventure Program demand increase
In 2018 SHADOW has seen a huge increase in the demand for our Wilderness Adventure Field Trips. Beyond out on-going partnership with the Tahoma School District, the Nature Preserve has hosted a wealth of students from preschool- college! Hear from a local teacher, how this out-door experience has benefited their class.
Seventeen-acre Restoration Project
SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve recently embarked on a 17-acre restoration project to restore biodiversity and wildlife habitat in the Nature Preserve’s upland forests. Read more!
