If you have ever taken a stroll to the end of SHADOW’s boardwalk and looked out beyond the trees from the boardwalk deck, there is a good chance you were looking towards a parcel of land that was not owned or managed by SHADOW, until now.
We are pleased to announce the acquisition of a 3.5-acre parcel of land that was just next door to our famous SHADOW Lake Bog that will now be under our protection and management. This is a special acquisition for SHADOW, this parcel is home to more rare bog habitat and a relatively healthy forest ecosystem with lovely mature trees.
Although this piece of forest and bog is in excellent condition, there is still some work that needs to be done. Our restoration staff and volunteers will soon be hard at work to help remove invasive plant species to help the native plants on the land thrive. We’re grateful to have this opportunity to continue our mission of preservation!
